What is a Visual Schedule?
Visual schedules are valuable tools in the learning process for individuals with specific developmental disorders such as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) or Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). These individuals are typically proficient visual thinkers, comprehending and retaining information better when presented visually. Visual schedules entail a sequential display of tasks in a clear and simplified manner using pictograms to allow for schematic representation devoid of unnecessary details. By utilizing visual schedules, individuals can grasp situations better, understand what is expected of them, and thereby alleviate the anxiety caused by new or unexpected circumstances. Visual schedules aid in preplanning for different upcoming events, assisting individuals in bringing order to their world and enhancing aspects of their emotional well-being.
What is PictogramAgenda?
PictogramAgenda is a software application designed to streamline the creation and implementation of visual schedules. This tool simplifies the process of arranging and organizing a sequence of images to form the visual schedule, or agenda. The application interface comprises three main sections: The top section displays images arranged sequentially and numbered to clearly portray the task order. In the central section, users can press a button to proceed to the next task, highlighting the current image or pictogram in a larger size. As tasks are completed, their corresponding images move to the bottom of the screen in a smaller size as a visual cue of tasks already accomplished.
